Wendy Perkins is a freelance writer and researcher. She has two main research areas, namely the lives of women in seventeenth-century France and the history of medicine in seventeenth-century France. Since the publication of her book, Midwifery and Medicine in Early-Modern France: Louise Bourgeois, short-listed for the Longman History Prize, she has been investigating the lives of as wide a range of women as possible across the social spectrum, using memoirs, journals, letters, livres de raison and travel books.
